He conducted groundbreaking experiments with pea plants in the mid-19th century, where he discovered the basic principles of heredity. Gregor Mendel was a lucky guy because he chose to study pea plants, which happened to have easily observable traits that were inherited in a predictable manner. This allowed him to conduct his experiments and develop his theories on inheritance and genetics. Additionally, he was able to work in a monastery with access to a garden, giving him the time and resources to conduct his experiments over many years.
